How to Put an Android Tablet into Kiosk Mode
"Kiosk Mode" is a restrictive mode that locks an Android device into a single application, in this case "ONSCREEN Joy for Tablet". This helps prevent users from exiting or accessing other apps/settings. While it is easy to unpin an app, it does a good job at keeping our app from being accidently stopped.
Using "Screen Pinning" (Basic Kiosk Mode)
(note that there are many different versions of Android, this is typical and yours should be very close to this)
Steps to enable:
|
(On this version of Android, on the Security and privacy screen there was an option for More security settings)
Enable Pin App as shown. |
| Start ONSCREEN Joy for Tablets |
| Open Recent Apps (swipe up from bottom of screen or use the square button if you get the three-button display).
|
| Now select Pin this app.
The app is now pinned and will open with a message telling you how to unpin it.

Removing "Screen Pinning" (Basic Kiosk Mode)
If you want to unpin the app, you will need to know the passcode for the Android Tablet.
Swipe up from the bottom and hold.
A confirmation will show, requiring you to enter the pin to unlock the tablet.
Once entered, you will be on the Home screen and ONSCREEN Joy will be in Recent Apps.
In Recent Apps, swipe ONSCREEN Joy for Tablets up through the top of the screen to completely close the app (and stop any notifications).
