Setup Help Video

Please watch this short video to get familiar with the hardware setup process. It includes all the steps for the hardware setup.

Before you begin

Make sure that the user that you're setting up the device for has been added to the system using the Enterprise Manager. For details on how to do this, please click here.

You will need the Wifi Name and Password to be able to complete the installation.

Ensure that the ONSCREEN package contains:

  1. ONSCREEN Moment Device

  2. Remote Control

  3. HDMI Cable

  4. Power Cable

Step 1: Mount the device to the TV

Open the legs and center lip on the ONSCREEN device. Place the ONSCREEN device on top of your TV and use the legs to clamp it on firmly. If it is not fitting correctly, use the mounting strips to attach the unit to the TV

Make sure to open the camera privacy shutter, and that the microphone mute switch does not show a red indicator.

Step 2: Connect to the TV

Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port of the device, and the other into your TV. Note which HDMI port (1-4) of the TV you used.

Important: Make sure you use the HDMI OUT port on the device, and NOT the HDMI IN port.

The HDMI port looks like this and is usually on the back of the TV:

When you're finished connecting, your device setup should look like this:

If you have trouble reaching the back of the TV, you may want to ask a family member or friend for help.

Step 3: Connect Existing TV Source to ONSCREEN

Being able to switch back to the regular programming after a video call or other interaction on ONSCREEN is very important, otherwise, the senior one will need to switch sources using the TV remote, which is not desired.

If you have an existing HDMI input that serves as the primary TV source, such as a Cable TV box, Streaming Box, or Satellite, you can unplug that source from the TV, and plug it into the HDMI IN port on the ONSCREEN device (see diagram above). Click here if you need more details about this.

This will create a seamless experience when switching between a call and the video source and will give the best user experience.

Step 4: Connect to power

If you have not turned on your TV yet, please turn it on now.

Switch the TV to the HDMI port that the ONSCREEN device is connected to, using the TV remote. This is usually done with the "Source" or "Input" button on your TV remote.

Scan the QR Code

Connect the device to power.

The unit will power up and you should see our logo followed by a screen that says "Let's connect your Network" and asking you to scan the QR Code.

Use the ONSCREEN remote to select the Wi-fi network that will be used by this device. Use the up and down arrows to select the network name. Tap the center of the selector to select the network. Then on the following screen, enter the Wifi password.

Once the password is entered, and the information is correct, it will connect to the network. Once connected to the network, it will look up the user information from the cloud, and complete the device setup.

Step 5: Ensure the HDMI CEC feature on the TV is enabled

HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is a feature that enhances the functionality of your TV by allowing connected devices to control one another. By enabling this feature, your new ONSCREEN device can automatically turn your TV on or switch to the correct input. Here's a simplified guide on how to activate HDMI CEC, sometimes referred to as "One-Touch Play," on most TVs.

  1. Locate Your TV's Settings or Menu Button: Use your TV's remote control to find the "Menu" or "Settings" button. Press it to open your TV's settings.

  2. Navigate to the HDMI Settings: Look for an option that's named along the lines of "HDMI Settings", "Input Settings", "CEC Settings", or "Device Connection Settings". The exact name can vary greatly between manufacturers.

  3. Find the HDMI CEC Option: Once you're in the HDMI or similar settings, look for an option that mentions HDMI CEC. This option might also be listed as "One-Touch Play", "Link", "Anynet+", "Bravia Sync", "Viera Link", "Kuro Link", "EasyLink", "SimpLink", or "T-Link", depending on the TV's manufacturer.

  4. Enable HDMI CEC: Click on the CEC option and then choose "Enable", "On", or similar. This will turn on the HDMI CEC feature, allowing devices connected via HDMI to control the TV, including power on/off and "One-Touch Play". Some TV's offer several control features so be sure to enable other options if they refer to Standby or Auto Power on or similar.

  5. Save Your Settings: Finally, ensure to save your settings before exiting the menu.

Once you've enabled HDMI CEC, your TV should be able to communicate with other CEC-enabled devices connected via HDMI, allowing them to power your TV on and off, and switch to them automatically when they start to play content.

Step 6: Do a Test Call & Test the TV On/Off functionality

Using the Mobile App, as an Admin, select the user that you just completed the setup for, and place a call. The call should connect within 30 seconds. Ensure the following:

  1. The TV switches from the regular programming to the call.

  2. Audio works fine during the call (you will hear echoes if you are near the TV)

  3. After you hang up the call, the TV should return to the prior programming.

  4. Tap the Control TV button.

    1. Test the Turn Off feature

    2. Test the Turn On feature

If any of these items don't work, please contact ONSCREEN's support right away to get help with troubleshooting.

(Optional) Step 7: System Update

Once you've configured the device using the QR Code, the system may update, which could take about 10 minutes to complete.

Congratulations! The hardware setup is now complete.
