How to Install with Coaxial Cable or Antenna

With a coax (round) cable input signal, it takes an extra step to be able to use the auto-answer function and return to TV after a call.

If your TV setup is using an antenna or cable tv with a coaxial connection, and you only watch broadcast or basic cable stations, you can use the Moment Plus to replace it. This means you only need to use the remote for the Moment Plus to watch tv and change stations or volume. This is by far the easiest configuration to use. It also adds the benefit of improved picture quality over antenna reception. See our article on using the TV app on the Moment Plus.

If you still want to continue with your TV setup using an antenna or cable with a coaxial connection, please follow the steps below to complete the ONSCREEN setup. You will need to purchase a coaxial-to-HDMI converter in order to ensure smooth operation with ONSCREEN.

Please note that these instructions are the same for Cable coaxial inputs.

To be sure, your current setup looks something like this:

Furthermore, you're likely using the TV like this:

  • You use the TV remote to switch channels

  • There is no set-top box for you to turn on

  • TV has HDMI port available

To ensure ONSCREEN works with your setup, you will need to purchase a Digital Converter Box. Here are some options we recommend:

Using the Digital Converter Box to connect ONSCREEN

Once you've purchased a Digital Converter you simply need to connect the pieces in this order:

  1. Unplug the Antenna coaxial cable from the TV.

  2. Connect the Antenna coaxial cable to the Digital Converter.

  3. Connect the HDMI cable that was provided by the Digital Converter to the HDMI IN port on the ONSCREEN device.

  4. Connect the HDMI cable that was provided by ONSCREEN and plug the HDMI OUT into an available HDMI port on the TV.

  5. Ensure all devices that need power are plugged into power.

  6. Your connections should look as follows:

Once you've set up the Digital Converter box, you will use the TV like so:

  • You use the Digital Converter remote to switch channels

  • If TV supports HDMI-CEC, we will be able to turn it on for our call

  • After call, the TV switches back to the regular programming
