Troubleshooting Joining Zoom Meetings

If a meeting can't be joined, here are the likeliest ways to correct it.

Updated over 2 months ago

Have you tried to join a loved one to a Zoom meeting but been kicked out immediately? Most Zoom issues are the ZOOM HOST's choice of security settings for the meeting. In most cases, they often don't know they have set these up. This article helps with the most common security issue "Authentication required on the Zoom Platform".

Identifying the Issue

When joining the meeting, the TV connected to ONSCREEN will do the following

  1. Switch on/show a "Joining Zoom Meeting" and show the passcode

  2. Start joining the meeting (TV shows "Entering meeting" or similar)

  3. TV then leaves the meeting and goes back to regular programming

To verify the problem is caused by Zoom security requirement, try to join the meeting from a laptop or phone. If you have Zoom installed, be sure to log out of Zoom first. If the issue is authentication required, you'll see a pop up that tells you the Host has required authentication.

Resolving the Issue

The only way to resolve the issue is for the Host to change this requirement. They have to do it by logging into their Zoom account on the web (zoom.us). In the Meetings section, they should edit the meeting and change it to not require authentication.

They can do this for all their future meetings under 'Settings', but for their personal room and scheduled meetings they should change it here.

Note that this still leaves them the option to have a passcode and/or have everyone stop in the waiting room. This is how 95% of Zoom meetings are secured.
